Hopak
The men and women of the Orlan are proud to have
more than one set of Hopak costumes. This particular wardrobe is highlighted
by the finest woven wool skirt of the women's costume. This long navy wrap-around
skirt is adorned with a beautiful arrangement of field flowers and wheat
sprays. Blouses, ablaze with poppies, are tucked in at the waist and held
in place with a red sash. The wreath and fluttering ribbons crown the head
with vibrant colours. The men wear shirts with billowy sleeves embroidered
in red, wine and black. Very wide velvet sharovary (pants) are sashed at
the waist with a red and blue woven poias that has a special twist to let
the ends hang on both sides. Red leather boots complete the ensemble.
